Another bump. I added Badwater, Gravelpit, Granary and Cashworks, and I updated Egypt. I also wrote a main page for the heatmaps with all the info and some other cool stat infos, so check it out!

Bump. I added Hoodoo and Pipeline. I am thinking about doing a timelapse of these after a week or so, since people are starting to figure out the best locations for Sentries. Pipeline is going to be very interesting since the gameplay is so fluid. I wouldn't be surprised if a standard heatmap never appeared out of it.

Glad you added Hoodoo because someone was asking about it on the server just a little while ago.

I'm already noticing some interesting, if illogical, trends on Pipeline.

Overall, Blue seems to be more defensive.
On Stage 1, Blue sets up Sentries more often, and sets up covert sentries in the upper decks in Red's area more often. They also have Sentries setup near their point more than Red.
On Stage 2, Red sets up a Sentry in the middle area more often on Blue's side. Blue also seems to be much more defensive here in general based on the volume, placement, and success of the Sentries; the upper walkway by the point to stop the upper pathway traffic, and in their lower spawn area and directly across from it in the alcove. Again, Blue sets up covert sentries in the upper joined hallway on Red's side.
On Stage 3, Blue seems to get the upper hand more often by placing a Sentry at the top of Red's cart path, and by placing one on their side of the rock wall at the bottom of the level.

All of this of course makes no sense since the maps are symmetrical, but like Fastlane one side just seems to be more defensive than the other.

If you consider how with much valve tries to keep one color always on defense and one always on offense, it makes a sense that folks tend to get into a "I must be on offense," or "I must be on defense," mentality. How do they compare with 2 fort? I haven't watched the heat maps there for sentries, but is one team more defensive and the the other more invasive?

2fort is more or less evenly matched. I think people are used to 2fort so they get out of that mindset, that and the people who play it don't usually play A/D and vice-versa. The fact that it is 24/7 doesn't help anything either.

Given that engi is prolly the class I play second most often behind medic I can't help but laugh looking at this because I can just see a lot of my favorite haunts for sentry gun placements around maps like granary and 2fort and so such... especially with how there's a direct mirror of sentry placements on 2fort just shows how accurate that whole map is in my opinion. Awesome maps man

Yet another bump. I've added the most recent TF2 update's heatmaps. Enjoy.

Another bump. I am cleaning up the page and adding some more information, as well as adding some of the newer maps. I am also going to be making the plugin publically available for other communities to signup and use, so we can get some more data besides the servers F7 runs.

If you are another community admin running TF2 and SourceMod, go ahead and contact me in one way or another and I can get you the plugin information and add you up on the site.

I would like to thank the Screaming Turtles community for joining in participating in the Sentry heatmap study!
