I have created some Heatmaps that are built using Sentry information from our servers - locations built, locations where they get kills, and locations where they are destroyed. Originally I did this because I am exceptionally lazy, and I did not want to spend the time to learn where the new good spots for a Sentry were when new maps come out. While I did achieve this result, an interesting side effect was finding out what maps were entirely too defensive.

TF2 Sentry Heatmaps

These maps are rebuilt daily, so the maps will always change over time. I am adding new maps as I get a chance to, so there will be new ones in the future.

Please feel free to spread that link around, I think this information is useful for everyone.

Also, there are some interesting trends here.

    Egypt is entirely too defensive.
In Fastlane, Red appears to be on the defensive far more that Blue.

Thanks to Hober I added some normalizing, so Badwater and Goldrush won't look so out of place. They are a bit false still though since they don't have as much data, but now you can still at least see what is there.

Interesting... I'm not looking at it so much as to see where to build but to see what spots are most effective- shows me which spots are best to strike at first. A lot of sentries I never thought as all that special are apparently putting out quite a bit of death... Any way you could maybe have a small reference ring to show the sentry range?

I could, but it would make the map extremely cluttered. If you want to open up Photoshop and do some testing for yourself, the distance on the map would be a circle that is 256 pixels in diameter.

EDIT
Wrong info, the correct size is 256 diameter.

I was anticipating those when you first told me about them and I gotta say they look even better than I was expecting.

Just wanted to give a small bump here. I made some changes to how they are generated so that they are softer overall. I also added some basic data to them - map name, heatmap type, and the period in which the data gathered was used. I still need to add some of the maps that aren't on there, I will get around to that soon.
