CyberWurx, one of our awesome and generous sponsors, has released their new website this past week. I am really impressed with how it looks and how cheap their packages are. If anyone is in the business to start a clan site, website, blog, or whatever else head over and check out their prices! Also, I wanted to drop a line to you guys that all are eager to know about CW's gamehosting options. They will be launching plans soon, so be sure you check here, and on CyberWurx's website!

I like their customize colo page but their bandwidth prices are too much for me. Any thoughts of if the price of hosting at a data center will go down as things like FIOS become more wide spread?

So how goes the development of sw33t and l33t game-purposed-servers at CyberWurx?
FYI, if you're doing games you should hop on the bandwagon for TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, and Mumble as well since people usually buy them from the same company they host their server on.

I doubt that pricing will go down much for datacenters. In fact I expect there to be in an increase due to energy increases. Bandwidth providers are already starting to raise pricing again too. Running a true datacenter is not just about the bandwidth. You have to have industrial hvac units, larger power setups (800+AMPS per panel), power generators, ups to support brown outs, larger bandwidth commitments across multiple providers, enterprise networking equipment, etc. Not to mention employees, benefits, etc. I am not sure how FIOS would change anything. FIOS is just for broadband and can not be used for webhosting or related services : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=583886Maybe they have changed the way they do it now, but I imagine it would cost more. Verizon offers hosting and datacenter services too, so doubt they would want people easily setting up hosting in their houses Other broadband providers are charging per GB now due to people hosting or using high resources. Those fees are higher than a regular hosting or datacenter would be charging.

It goes well actually. I would say things are about 90% ready. TeamSpeak is easy to get going, but Ventrilo requires special licensing that takes years to obtain. Mumble I heard was completely open source and definitely something I am considering getting implemented.

I thought the prices for bandwidth was reasonable... on a related note, how much bandwidth does F7Lans go through in a given period of time? I have always been curious how much bandwidth a game server uses and since you guys run them maybe you can fill me in. Thanks And yea, mumble is open source and good!

We're on a little more of a metered method of tracking. Bandwidth is tracked at the 95th percentile.

conepup. While it is true it isn't allowed on a home plan, they do very little to prevent it. We have only encounter two ports that are blocked so far and my friend hosts 5 L4D servers on his computer at home that has a 20/5 connection. No problems thus far. Also, you can get business fios where hosting IS allowed. It's more expensive but still much cheaper than a colo, you only get one IP but that wouldn't matter to me. f0rkz wrote: We're on a little more of a metered method of tracking. Bandwidth is tracked at the 95th percentile. f0rkz. That was something I didn't fully understand on this page it shows: 0 - 4: $75 per MBit/s 95th Percentile/mo 5 - 19: $70 per MBit/s 95th Percentile/mo 20 - 49: $65 per MBit/s 95th Percentile/mo 50 - 99: $60 per MBit/s 95th Percentile/mo 100+: $55 per MBit/s 95th Percentile/mo Now I took that as, "ok so if i use 2 Mbits in April, i'll get charged $150 and if i use 5 MBits in May I would get charged $350." Which was cool that as your bandwidth increases, your cost per MBit decreased. Then i clicked on the check box and became very confused. Suddenly I was selecting how many MBits I wanted based on the 95th percentile? So what is that page trying to say exactly? If i selected 1Mbit would i be capped at that speed? Because that doesn't make sense to me.
