Yeah ground combat in this game period is pretty hokey. I love the ship combat though myself. They should have gone with a classic FPS style, or at least a Mass Effect style imo. Least the ship combat makes up for it and consumes the larger quantity of the game. Ground based PVP is even worse right now. =P Talk about awkward!

I'm looking forward to my new ship. Even though you can't use the bonus items in the quick start and I'll have a tier 2 ship long before that so I'll never get to use it which makes me question the point in it. Maybe for a 2nd character? I was tempted to order via steam for the armor, but having to load steam just to get to the login then closing it seemed like it would be a pain.

I made it to Commander 8, which is 28 during beta, how about you guys? I was wanting to hammer out 31 and try out the defiant class of escort but I figured since Pi Velorum was bugged all to hell and back getting there would be tedious as hell just for it to be wiped 3 days later so I gave up lol.

Also as to the OP's comments, you can right click on weapons to make them auto fire. And you can also bind keys to target the closest, most powerful etc targets which makes things a lot quicker. Trying to tab through 4 targets to get to the one you want, especially in the ship based fights where there is like a squagillion mines you have to tab through first can get annoying. In the ships only 1 aft and 1 forward weapon can be set to auto fire which seemed pretty silly to me but what can ya do? I just had spacebar set to fire all phasers, and had 2-3 bound to my forward/aft torpedo's. This game takes a crap ton of hot keys though by the time your higher level. ^_- Typical fights had me hitting Ctrl + 1-5, Alt + 1-5, and 1-9 on the keyboard at times lol. Here's to hoping they allow player macros!

I believe they said that player macros are going to be allowed, and how did you target different people ie toughest/closest etc...?

In the options, under key bindings there was a set of different target X type key bindings you could setup.

On a side note these aren't related to the control questions, but they are in the star trek theme. And they made me laugh so ....

First night of head start went off a lot better then I had expected. :) There was plenty of lag and they got started like 2 hours late, but over all it went off way better then most other MMO launches I've seen. Granted it's the preorder warm up, so we'll have to see how Tuesday goes. ^_- But so far so good!

I don't really see many changes at all from beta besides a lack of bugs which has been great. Especially in ground based missions where it seemed like every other one had a show stopping bug in it in beta.

Well they have a lot they need to work out. For one there is too little content in the game presently. I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far, but I also am level 37 out of 45 and the game has been out for a little over a week and I play about 3-4 hours a night at most if that. All that is really left is leveling a klingon via PVP which is basically just open arenas in space or ground combat (ground combat is seriously crap imo, the PVE is one thing, it's tolerable there for me, but the PVP combat is awful imo). So leveling the klingon is gonna be rough. There is also the issue of lag, after they "increased server capacity" the game has lagged 10x worse then before. You rubber band constantly and repeat flying sections of space sometimes 3-4 times in sector space. That is forgivable to me since it's a just launched MMO though.

The main issue is lack of content however. I assume there will be a content patch soon as everyone is raising holy hell on their forums about hitting max level and having absolutely nothing whatsoever to do at this point. What little is out is great fun, especially the post 20 or so storyline missions, although even those have started being scarce, you typically get one patrol some systems quest, and 1 storyline mission PER level when your 30+, which means running the boring exploration or enemy signal contact quests over and over to finish out each level. I expect this to get worse the closer we get to 45 honestly if they keep with how they've been doing. Once they add in some content for the end game, and maybe some in between content the game will be alot better. Although to me this is the kind of game you play for a bit then put down honestly, it's not the type of MMO you stick with for years. Only so much they can really do and stay cannon after all. I'd advise anyone who wants to try the game to wait a month and A) Let the price drop below 50$, and B) wait 1-3 months for more content to be put in.

That being said the Defiant class escort with full tetryon weapons, 2 cannons, 1 beam in front and back, and 2 photon torp launchers in front and back is just vicious. :) Shields just peel off enemies with them especially if you build your bridge officer abilities right. With beam overload I, rapid fire cannon III, attack pattern alpha, and High Yield Torp III it's just wrong. ^_- I can't wait to try the final tier of escort if this is any indication.

Bah to your Tetryon, Disruptor mastery is the way to go. Defiant class with 3 Forward cannons (2 heavy, 1 single), a Transphasic Torp (Who cares if you have shields? I'll just blast right through 'em!), and two disruptor turrets on the back in a sustainable max weapon system and I blow holes through people. Sure, takes me alittle extra time to peel back the shields, but the second I do, they're already missing chunks of hull from my transphasic. My cannons just do clean up.

FYI, turrets also use rapid fire cannon. It's like a wave of death.

Do you use attack pattern beta or omega to assist with extra damage debuff? It stacks nicely with Disruptor's debuff.
